We have been working with Paul & Christy Blowes for over 4 years now. We first met them in 2015 as we wanted a builder involved in the design of our new home which was to be constructed on a difficult site in Merewether NSW. We chose Paul partly because he had renovated 3 of our friends houses (one was a major renovation) as well as our medical consulting rooms – all with excellent results.

By having a builder on board early, commenting on the constructability of design, we hoped to ensure that the build would be more efficient with less problems. Paul has been with us every step of the way and I truly consider both Paul and Christy to be great friends now (which says a lot as building a complicated home on a complicated site over years is not without its problems and stresses).

We have never regretted our choice to go with PB Quality Constructions. Paul is completely committed to quality construction and aesthetics and he and his team are true craftsman. I project managed the build and worked with Paul every day. I have high expectations and aspirations for quality outcomes and he always met my requirements. But more importantly, he provided solutions, options and went over and above to seek out the best outcome for our home. As an example, when we fell short of our recycled floor boards he found the same 100 year old used floor boards in an old school on the outskirts of Sydney which he collected himself and fit seamlessly into our now beautiful floor AND when I wanted to buy insulation made from 85% recycled plastic bottles (that I could only find in QLD) he organised the transport, and thousands below the quotes I could get, for it to be delivered to site on time.

It was important to me that we recycled everything we could from the old house and from the new build. This is a pain, but Paul accommodated this important value: concrete, metal, plastics, timber offcuts, what ever he could, was recycled. But once again Paul went over and above and using his craftsmanship created something totally beautiful. As an example, we retained all of the timber from the 1950’s house that was onsite, we stored it and wanted to reuse it in the finishes and features of the house. Paul and his team don’t need to outsource this trade, they turned rough, nail ridden timber into cabinetry, vanity’s, coffee tables, book shelves, battens, kitchen bench top, decking, screens, door frames, outdoor tables, seats and more. This is one of the most successful parts of this brilliant house and he should be very proud.

Our home was Paul’s first large executive home and he definitely nailed it (excuse the pun). We were delighted to have his team onsite. They are all respectful, friendly, interesting and wonderful human beings (who have very good taste in music). They all love what they do and it was a joy watching them work.

Our site, my decisions and life threw everything it had at our build (a true Grand Designs project) and we have had a very good outcome with Paul at the realm. As an example, we have a very steep driveway which is not accessible to large trucks so all deliveries had to be bought up on smaller vehicles, carried or pushed and all rubbish transported down – this was never a problem for Paul. We made multiple changes to the design as we went and we were accommodated and assisted to ensure everyone was happy with the outcome. We had conflicts too (as anyone would over 3 years) and these were all resolved amicably, enabling us to continue on with the project. We had a Cost Plus Contract with a rolling budget so can’t comment on expenditure but we believe we received value for money. We continue to use Paul and his team for all our projects throughout Newcastle.

I write this letter of recommendation with great enthusiasm, having been the beneficiary of Paul’s talents for the past 12 months (8 months of building time). Whilst our home is not finished just yet, we couldn’t be happier with Paul as our builder. My wife and I first engaged Paul through a recommendation when we were looking for a builder to create our new family home. There are many elements to our home that wouldn’t have been had Paul not suggest them, or look for a better way. We’ve had the opportunity to speak with many tradesman over the past nine months during our drop-ins to the house and I’ve been struck by how many take the time to tell me what a quality builder we have in Paul (not that I needed convincing).Something I hadn’t given much thought to before starting this project was the team that would support Paul in building our home. Quality has a way of attracting quality and we’ve been so impressed with the carpenters and builders that Paul has on his team.
